    Comic Loop Jam 5
I just wanted to remind folk that I'm reviving the old 'Comic Loop Jam' idea. If you either enjoy drawing comics or would like to draw comics, this is something you should do.

    General Idea:
Everyone submits a panel. Everyone gets 2 back. Everyone submits a comic that starts with the first panel and finishes with the last. I upload them and everyone's comics tell a wierd ongoing story with no real beginning and no end.

Deadlines (can be changed if you need) :
Wed. 21st October - panel submission
Wed. 4th November - comic submission

    Rules for panels:
The size of the image MUST be either 300x300 or 600(width) x anything.
The image MUST have some white 'gutter space' around the edges.
For this CLJ, colour is highly encouraged.
It can be any subject matter as long as it could conceivably be the start or the end of a comic. I'd suggest refraining from other folks' characters or anything you'd be unhappy to see possibly perverted.
    My e-mail address:
    aciddimensions(at)gmail.com

    Rules for comics:
The comic MUST be 600px wide.
The comic MUST start and end with the panels you're sent. The panels must be unaltered.
I used to say that comics must be under 200kb. I think slightly more - maybe 300kb - would be a reasonable limit nowadays. I guess it depends on the comic's size and stuff partially. If it's easier, you can just send me a really high quality version and I'll resave it for the web.

    AQs (Asked Questions)

    # panels?
Up to you. As long as it somehow connects the first/last panel you're fine. Think 'one page-ish'. 2-10 panelsish. I guess jumping from one to the other in a non sequitur is kinda a cop-out but maybe the panels you're sent only merit something really brief in between? Or require something long? Either is fine.

    Usage of colour?
In the past, it was up to individual panel-senders to either colour in or not. I guess it's easier to put together the comics if everything's either in colour OR B&W but in the past, folk have made some sense of a transition. For this one, let's say colour is highly encouraged but not essential. Maybe we could then do really quick B&W ones if folk want?

This film was captivating. Frankly, if you're interviewing a serial murderer and it's BORING, something's gone terribly wrong...

I hated the moralistic overtones of the director's comments but it was really interesting - and almost heartbreaking - to see this woman - who initially seems relatively normal - reveal all her issues both in her past and in her mind.

    8/10

I'm now wondering if there are other films made that feature interviews with mass murderers.

And also if I should actually do these tiny 'reviews' or just see if the comics speak for themselves.

You know, I've 'written' about 7 of these summaries but not actually drawn the final things. You'd think I would have, given this comic-drawing competition and such.

Anyways, this week I'm going to try and increase my brush-wielding proficiency. It's hard to get the right amount of ink on the brush! First it's too much, then it becomes just right for a fleeting moment, then it's too little... Any advice?

    Reviews of AcidDICA performances
I think it's been about a year since my first full-length gig. In that time, I've been lucky enough to play at Pivo Pivo repeatedly, been asked to the Halt twice, played a full set in Cosmopol and given an open invitation back and hopefully will be playing a full set at a 4th venue next month.

I spent 20 minutes looking to see if anyone had written anything about me and here's what I found:

"AcidDICA comes highly recommended by the organisers."
    - The List, Hogmanay issue p82

AcidDICA is the most entertaining performer in Glasgow right now. He is drugs in human form. He is a cult phenomenon in the making. You MUST come see him, NOW! Our 3 guests have a lot to follow - Music News Scotland (bottom of 4th column)

"AcidDICA has been described as "drugs in human form". Sounds perilous." - The List

"Barely half way through the first pint of Czech brewed pain killer, someone started pounding the electric piano on the stage. That somebody was Aciddica and, in but a few minutes, I was the proud owner of a stupid grin. Quite how that was achieved is not entirely clear. His songs are not really songs. They stumble in to being, thrash about wildly and then suddenly stop but they certainly get your attention. I've got it. Aciddica is entertainment. It's that simple." - Blues Bunny

    Sorry for the self-aggrandising but...

Hopefully one day I'll be able to actually build up a fanbase.

Since I noticed that my hand doesn't seem comfortable wielding an ink brush any more, I thought I'd spend an hour just doing a load of quick comics. No pencilling. Just ink.

I think I learned something, though I'm not sure what it is.

Two lines with an open arrowhead at the end represent something (at the base of the lines) causing whatever is at the end of the arrow.

Three horizontal lines above each other represents time - stuff above is the relative past; stuff below the relative future.

Hopefully this comic is fully understandable.

I bought new brushes last Thursday but I didn't want to use ink or paint just yet.

On a related note, does anyone else get a wee bit of satisfaction from running down a pen? When I'm forced to buy a new pen or marker, I see it almost as proof of the fact that I've been putting my tools to use, so to speak...

Today, I ate a 'Tootsie Pop' for the first time in my life, I think. I also think it was probably 14 years old.

Is the centre meant to be liquidy? The centre of mine was olive-green with a texture like chewy caramel.

Anyways, this is a comic. I hope you like it.

    Inspired by Tony again.

Hopefully this comic is readable. Please let me know if you can/can't read the words.

In retrospect, the 'I' should have probably been higher to ensure it gets read first.

This is my favourite summary comic, maybe.

Review: I give stargirl an 8/10.

Though ostensibly a children's book, some themes may be better enjoyed by a young adult.

An addictive read, most chapters end in a tiny cliffhanger, leading us into the next. The story of schoolchildren is one we can all relate to and Stargirl is an engaging character.

It almost made me cry; made me laugh, smile and empathise. Like all the best stories, it's worth mulling over in your mind.

I recommend this to anyone looking for a lovely story.

I hate to post something so shitty but I've honestly gotten myself wondering if the last thing counts as a 2-panel comic or not. This is my backup.

    Goodnight.

If I were to do this again, I think I'd overlap the speech bubbles to show that we're interacting to sing parts of the same thing and the close connection I think I had.

This comic applies to both the anime and the manga. Though in retrospect, I should have specified the comics, since I've read all of them (but not seen all the cartoons).

Dragonball started off like a fun adventure comic but half-way through just became one excuse for a fight after another. It remains like that until the end pretty much. Hercule was welcome comic relief though.

The 'Saiyan level 3' idea is pretty ridiculous. Once transformed, Goku hardly looks like himself...

Anyway, comics seem a silly medium to fight after fight in - they're better at depicting other stories imo. (Toriyama does do a good job though.) And the Tv series just follows the tortuously slow pacing of the comics.

I give the comic 6/10. It's a terrible story but Toriyama's sense of humour comes through at times.

I'm sure all that's been written a million times before.
